Swimsuit and shorts season is coming up, so I just wanted to give you a friendly reminder:
You are a beautiful creature.
And your beauty has nothing to do with your proportions. It has everything to do with the fact that, down in your bones, you are a wild thing of nature, like a tree or a river or the mountains.
Nobody walking among trees and rivers and mountains thinks Well, this is nice, but I wish these trees were more shapely and this river was more straight. Nobody looks at the Tetons and says, “Well, they could be more symmetrical, you know?”
You are the Tetons. Own being the Tetons.
This doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to take care of yourself. Eat the food that makes you feel good and do the movements that make you feel good and, by all means, sleep. But after you do all that, if you don’t look like a fitness model, don’t sweat it.
Because you’re not a fitness model. You are not a fitness anything.
You’re the fucking Tetons.
And I’m sure you do a lot of really cool things, like take care of people and create art and build stuff that makes people’s lives easier. But before all that, before you were of “use” to anyone, you were still the Tetons, beautiful just for being.
So wear what you want and do what you want this summer. If anyone expresses consternation, know that they’re projecting their own fears onto your body, and it has nothing to do with you.
Just smile and tell them they’re the Tetons too.
